Dreams and nightmares occur during the REM cycles of sleep. Nightmares are a result of ones feelings of the day or an experience one has felt or seen during that day or from the past. A few only are capable of controlling their dream which could be a useful tool in such situations through lucid dreaming. Most people forget what their nightmares were, some wake you up and are the most probable ones to remember. Nightmares are common among people and scientist have spent years researching dreams and nightmares. Here are a few reasons or could be reasons why you experienced these nightmares.

1. Falling from a building, a cliff, rollercoaster, plane or a vehicle
One of the most common nightmares people face is falling. One feels that his body has fallen off a building, etc, resulting in waking up for a moment to only realize he is still on his bed. Scientists relate the falling nightmare to daily anxiety or rather the fact that one is not in control with the happenings during the day. It could also relate to a sudden dip in blood pressure or movement of the inner ear fluid, either way the victim of this nightmare wakes up with quite a shake, yet at the end pleased that he is only on the bed.

2. Being lost in a maze or territory one doesn’t recognize or a forest
Quite commonly does one come across nightmares like this, where one walks or runs around, be it a maze, a forest, trying to find the way out or rather find recognizable territory. It also could suggest ones indecisive nature during the day or inability to make a concrete decision or the fact that one does not understand the happenings of the day.

3. Teeth falling out
Now this is scary as hell when it happens. This nightmare could relate to the fact that either you visited your dentist, having a tooth pain or that your teeth are sensitive, the pain coincides with your dream giving you this horrible nightmare.

4. Getting chased for your life
For kids it could be a monster they saw in a cartoon or an overgrown teddy bear or something of that sort, for an adult it could be castration for men and harassment for girls or it could be an animal one has a phobia for. It could occur as a result of guilt or the fact that one felt such was happening or suspected it in real life although in reality that was not the case. Incidents that one hears of or have seen happening could influence such a nightmare.

5. Natural disaster or the apocalypse
How often has one felt that he is caught in an earthquake only to wake, finding himself on a rocking chair. While the surrounding might influence your dream, psychologically it could mean that you were overwhelmed with a situation much bigger than one can handle. A tidal wave could also just be a spray of water on you while sleeping or you could fall under that category of people who continuously fear that the end is near.

6. Naked in Public or being caught naked
This could have been the last thought before you go to sleep or you being in a close call situation recently, it could also relate to your insecurity with your body, where in the dream people mock the fact that your naked, it could mean that you feel judged based on your body features. This is one dream that could also turn hilarious if one is not insecure of his/her body.

7. Sex with a stranger you have never seen
This could directly relate to your current relationship status and how you feel about it. Want something new, your dream helps you with that.

8. Screwing up a test or interview or project at work
This directly reflects the situation and nerves you have put yourself in. When one is under prepared for such an event it runs through their mind the whole day and inevitably lands up as a nightmare.

Having injuries is your brains way of telling you that you have a weakness in your own private life, it could be a result of something you saw in real life or on tv or fear happening to you.

10. Partner leaving or cheating on you
This relates to the insecurity you feel with your partner and your self esteem. Your fear of this happening could spur such dreams.
